The project
In 2024, KOPI will expand The Arusha Project and host a combined prehospital emergency medical services training with leaders from the APD and The Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania, Karagwe Diocese (KAD). The training will take place in Arusha and will have members from both districts present. We plan to train over 100 participants in the course of two weeks in patient assessment, triage, transport, and basic first aid.
Educate Tanzania
This project came out of a partnership with Educate Tanzania (ETI). An important U.S. based nonprofit that has done some amazing work. ETI is committed to the intentions and education of the people in Karagwe, Tanzania and its surrounding area. Since its inception in 2010, Educate Tanzania has partnered with Rev Dr. Benson Bagonza and other leaders in Karagwe to help them bring Karagwe University College to life. ETI is dedicated to supporting KOPI in its effort to bring emergency medicine education to the people of Karagwe.
Sustainability
KOPI wants to work itself out of a job. We recognize how important sustainability is. The Karagwe Partnership will incorporate live filming and scripted training recordings. These will feature participants from the 2024 training who have excelled in the coursework. These recordings will be brought back to the U.S. and turned into training modules that will be delivered to ALMC and KAD. This will allow both regions to continue the training without the need to have KOPI trainers in Tanzania.
Quality Assurance
A large part of our training is hands on skills assessment. We recognize that even with recorded lecture and demonstration there needs to be system in place to evaluate course participants. After the recorded lectures are delivered, KOPI will arrange to view skills remotely in order to help evaluate performance and provide guidance. While our hope is that we are no longer needed, we plan to continue and provide live in person support annually to make any necessary adjustments to the curriculum or process.
